2016 PBA Mock Draft 2.0: Making it More Interesting

2016 PBA Mock Draft 2.0: Making it More Interesting

We are already in the middle of our second conference and the competition is very tight! That makes me more excited about the arrival of the upcoming draft class!

Let me clear something first. The 12 amateur players in this list are not guaranteed to enter this year's draft, this is pure assumption in regards to news floating around.

The draft order is also not official because that can only be determined at the end of the Governors' Cup. The order is done by averaging the rankings of each team in the three conferences.

The draft order was assumed using their Philippine Cup Ranking and their Commissioner's Cup standing in March 20, 2016.

#1 Blackwater Elite - Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
If they will end up with the #1 pick and Bobby decided to return home, I expect the management of the Elite to be at the venue of the draft a week before it happens! Ray Parks is the real deal. His skills and physical attributes is topnotch.
#2 Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel - Kiefer Ravena
If Phoenix continue to slide, Ginebra could challenge the starting backcourt of the Globalport Batang Pier, Stanley Pringle and Terrence Romeo, for the most dynamic and prolific backourt title in the league with Kiefer Ravena and Earl Scottie Thompson.
#3 Mahindra Enforcers - Christian Hermoso
He may be quite old already to enter the PBA as a rookie but there is no doubt that he can turn any team into a legit contender right away. He is a very skilled bigman who can post up and knock midrange shots. Mahindra will be more than happy to land a bigman.
#4 Phoenix Fuel Masters - Arnold Van Opstal
The league is becoming taller and bigger so I expect Phoenix to choose the expected tallest possible draftee this year, AVO. He stands around 6'8 and he has the physical tools that could turn him to a credible star in the league.
#5 NLEX Road Warriors - Kevin Ferrer
NLEX would love to add another shooter to surround their big two of Asi Taulava and Sean Anthony. Ferrer can develop into a much taller version of Marcio Lassiter or one of the most elite scorer in the league. Kevin Alas and Garvo Lanete should complement him very well with Alas' handle and Lanete's shooting.
#6 Purefoods Star Hotshot - Mac Belo
Purefoods doesn't have any holes to fill so they will surely pick the best player available and I think Mac will be that guy. He may not see the floor that much if Purefoods choose him but they could slowly develop him to be their Small Forward of the future.
#7 San Miguel Beermen - Russel Escoto
Another team who doesn't have any need to fill. Escoto is a lanky bigman who has an above average athleticism who can shoot from the outside. It will be a perfect fit because he will need a few years to develop but he has the tools to be the second coming of an Arwind Santos.
#8 Meralco Bolts - Von Pessumal
With their last place finish in the Philippine Cup, it is really hard to imagine that Meralco may still end with the #8 pick. With the connection of the MVP group to Ateneo, Von will be their guy. He has a very beautiful shooting stroke and with his height, 6'2, he can develop into a great starting PG.
#9 Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel - Ed Daquioag
Ginebra will end up as the bigger winner of this draft if it happens exactly this way. Their guard rotation is the shallowest and they will end up adding two promising rookies. Ed is a very athletic guard who can end up as a highlight reel guy with his explosive drives.
#10 Rain or Shine Elasto Painters - Chris Javier
Elasto Painters will need to shock us again with this pick because there is no point on drafting another guard or a wingman with the depth that they have on those positions. Chris Javier is a hardworking bigman who played for UE Red Warriors in College. Can Coach Yeng's magic be effective for Javier too?
#11 Alaska Aces - Jonathan Grey
Alaska should continue to add wings through the draft until they find their future SG or their future sixth man. Jonathan Grey is an athletic slasher and scorer, almost in the same mold of Kevin Racal.
#12 Phoenix Fuel Masters - Roger Pogoy
I don't expect them to get a guard with this pick with the abundance of their guards, so Pogoy could be the best available guy for them at this point. A skilled forward who has the work ethic to improve his game.
