This season is becoming more and more controversial as days goes by. At the center of the limelight right now, is the relegation of Gary David to the Unrestricted Free Agency. Of course, the PBA universe has exploded in social media as PBA fans share their thoughts on the matter.
But, a lot of them do not understand the current situation of Gary D. so let me give my explanation.
WHAT HAPPEN?
1. Meralco suspended Gary David.
2. According to Meralco management, Coach Norman wants another warm body to be available in their game against Blackwater, so they relegated Gary David to the Unrestricted Free Agency.
3. In the rules of the PBA, they can only protect one player that is not currently in their roster and Meralco chose Rabeh Al Hussaini.
4. That made Gary David an official Unrestricted Free Agent who can negotiate a new contract with any team that he wants. But, he still have the option to return to Meralco and continue his current contract with them.
5. In short, the ball is now on David's court. He can decide for his future.
I hope, that helps.
Right now, Mahindra Enforcers seems to be the most legit option but I think there are three better choices for him right now.
#3 Sign with Blackwater Elite
I think, they are the team that craves for him the most! And if you are a player, it is a no-brainer that the team that really wants you, will be the best place for you.
Although, a lot may say that even with him, it will be hard for Blackwater to claim a championship, a supernova import can always be a game-changer. Also, Blackwater is having a good conference right now with their 3-4 record. They are playing very well and their import fits them very well.
#2 Return to Meralco Bolts
Just in case, Meralco activates him, it will be good for Gary to consider returning, specially if his #1 option is not available. I still believe that winning a championship is still the primary goal of Gary at this point of his career and Meralco looks capable of having a championship run this conference.
The reality is, Coach Norman recognize his value as proven by his 29.1 minutes per game in the Philippine Cup. I think what happened was, they were winning games and Jared Dillinger and Chris Newsome were successful in playing the 2. Gary was still having 16.9 minutes this conference, unfortunately his performance was awful (6.6 points, 34.8% FG) that he doesn't deserve more minutes.
#1 Sign with Ginebra
Remember the rumor about a Gary David trade to Ginebra? If there was really a talk between the two, Ginebra should be celebrating now because they now have the opportunity to acquire him without giving up anyone! But, it seems, it wasn't tru at all.
Nevertheless, for Gary David, Ginebra will be the best place for him. Ginebra is the worst three-point shooting team right now, and adding the El Granada could be the answer. Gary is looking for his first championship and Ginebra has an elite roster with an elite coach. Gary will be given the opportunity if he decides to go to Ginebra. This is the best win-win place for him!
