2016 PBA Offseason Grades: San Miguel Beermen
It was just a month ago after the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel won their first championship in eight years and the PBA will open it's 42nd season tomorrow. Let us examine how each team did in the offseason.
SAN MIGUEL BEERMEN
Players in: RR Garcia, Keith Agovida
Players out: Bitoy Omolon (retired), Ryan Arana, Michael Mabulac
Drafted players: Arnold Van Opstal, Rashawn McCarthy
GRADE: A
The San Miguel Beermen will defend their Philippine Cup trophy with a much stronger lineup. They've added another reliable guard scorer in RR Garcia and a young slasher in Keith Agovida via trade.
They drafted a 6'8 big man in Arnolad Van Opstal that can carry some load from June Mar Fajardo and can also be paired with "The Kraken" inside the court if SMB chooses deploy their own version of "Twin Tower" in games. They also added another shooter in Rashawn McCarthy as a contingency for injured Chris Lutz.
Basically, the San Miguel Beermen who were considered a powerhouse team become much stronger this coming conference and were ready to defend their title. Can we just give them the trophy?
