This Knight cager is Black Mamba’s namesake and a lot more
By: Paolo Manuel Fule
What’s in a name? Perhaps
if you’re a basketball player named after one of the greatest basketball
players of all time, it is indeed an honor. But to give your best in every game
to prove that you are all worth it is another thing. Indeed, Kobe Bryan Monje
is walking his talk as a part of the Letran Squires family.
Born Kobe Bryan Monje
on November 23, 1999 at Bulan, Sorsogon to Mr. Al Monje and Edna Monje, the
6-foot-3 cager is now playing and studying as a junior high school in Colegio
de San Juan de Letran in Manila.
Asked
how he balances his studies and basketball, “Study first because ever since I
was not yet a
player,
I focus on my studies. When it’s time for basketball practices, I make sure
also to focus on that”, said Kobe.
His
career high in points is 28 in the PCABL tournament. His favorite NBA player is
Kobe
“Black
Mamba” Bryant and in the PBA, it’s Star Hotshots center Marc Pingris.
If
there is a player whom he wishes to have a one-on-one game with, it would be
Marc Pingris.
“We
have the same story when we were growing up, and we also came from the same
roots
since
we are both Ilocano”, said Kobe.
Kobe
wants to be a doctor someday and a PBA basketball star. With determination, perseverance and faith in
God, this young athlete can achieve greater heights and carve a niche in the
world of professional basketball in the near future.
