Terrence Crawford unifies four championships from major boxing sanctioning bodies
Do you want to see Terrence Crawford's championship belts?
World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council, International Boxing Federation, World Boxing Organization and Ring Magazine, tonight, Terrence Crawford joins Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor as the few boxers who have held all the belts of the four major sanctioning body simultaneously.
Terrence Crawford is undefeated at 29 years old. He came into the fight with his WBC and WBO super lightweight titles and a powerful left hand punch that knocked out his previously undefeated opponent from Namibia, South Africa. Julius Indongo was 22 - 0 and had successes against fighters like Eduard Troyanovsky and Ricky Burns where he collected the IBF and WBA belts that he placed on the line.
Julius Indongo suffered his first defeat in his first fight on US soil. At 34 years old, Indongo had a late burst of success winning two belts in his last two fights but may have bitten too much against Terrence Crawford who now enjoys a perfect 32 wins with 23 knockouts record, while holding four championship belts after defeating the previously unbeaten Indongo.
Boxing history was made tonight as Terrence Crawford continues his stardom in boxing and his case to be considered as one of the best.
The crowd in Omaha wasn't expecting an easy fight but Crawford who was packing some heavy punches last night was hitting the target and Indongo was obviously getting hurt. Indongo was knocked down in the first with the right hand and was again hit by a heavy punch in the third round, this time a left to the body that sent the former champion from South Africa crumbling to the canvas and left referee Jack Reiss counting him out at 1:38 of the third round.
“Oh man, we’ve been practicing on body shots all camp,” “It’s been a rough, tough camp. And everything that we worked on in camp, it came out today in the fight.” - Terrence Crawford
Terrence Crawford is now in the peculiar but great place as sanctioning bodies may fight over wanting him to defend the belts against contenders. Not sure how long he can hold on to a belt without actually fighting under each bodies but in any case, Terrence is not in a hurry to decide what he will be doing next but according to sources he might move up to the Welterweight division.
