FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2017 Bound Philippine Team will Join the Tournament as Chooks To Go Pilipinas
The name may be different but the heart will still be the same as the Philippine basketball team will once again be representing the country in the upcoming FIBA Asia Championship Cup 2017 which will take place in Chenzou, China on September 22 to 30, 2017.
The competition was unexpected for the Philippines as the tournament already had 10 teams but with Japan Club Sunrockers Shibuya pulling out due to scheduling conflicts, a slot opened and the Philippines was given the wild card spot.
The news was announced by Chot Reyes via twitter. He will also be coaching the team that does not have any definite players as of yet. With PBA conference on going, the team might most likely consist of none PBA players, Gilas cadets, and college players unless PBA can loan their best players again.
According to the FIBA Asia rules, the number of participating teams in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup is ten (10). Each of the six (6) FIBA Asia Sub-Zones has one place, and the hosts (China) was automatically qualified. The other three places are allocated to the zones according to performance in the 2016 FIBA Asia Champions Cup.
Tournament groupings, top four teams per group will advance to the quarter finals.
Group A: BC Astana, Mono Vampire, Petrochimi, Sarreyet Ramallah, Chooks To Go Pilipinas.
Group B: Al Shabab Al Ahli, ONGC, Al Riyadi, Dacin Tigers, China Kashgar
