MIAMI — Sanman boxers Reymart Gaballo and Mike Plania both made weight on Friday for the biggest fights of their young careers on Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Gaballo weighed 116.6 pounds for his WBA interim bantamweight championship fight against Stephon Young, the American southpaw who checked in at 118 pounds. Gaballo has a record of 18-0 with 16 knockouts while Young is also unbeaten at 17-0-3 with 7 knockouts. It’ll be Gaballo’s second fight in the United States since training with Cuban coach Moro Fernandez.
Plania had a much easier time on the scales than his opponent Juan Carlos Payano, coming in under the limit at 117.6 pounds for their NABO bantamweight championship fight. Payano needed two trips to the scale to get cleared to fight, weighing 118.4 on his first attempt before coming in at 117.8 on his second try for their 10-round scheduled fight. Payano is a former WBA bantamweight champion, defeating three-time American Olympian Rau’Shee Warren in 2015 but lost it in a rematch in his first defense.
The “Rumble at the Rock” card will be promoted by The Heavyweight Factory. Special guests expected that evening include former heavyweight champions Riddick “Big Daddy” Bowe and Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield. Doors open at 6 PM with first bout starting at 7 PM. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is located at 1 Seminole Way in Hollywood, Florida.
