Ganigan Lopez outboxes Jonathan Taconing;retains WBC title

Arena Coliseo Mexico- Mexican Ganigan Lopez successfully defended his WBC light flyweight world title by outclassing Filipino Jonathan Taconing. The fight was Lopez's first title defense and also a mandatory title defense,

The Filipino fighter was agressive in the fight trying to catch Lopez with some punishing blow but Lopez used his jab to control the pace of the entire fight. Taconing tried to catch the Mexican pushing him into the ropes but taller Mexican keeps on outboxing Taconing. Both boxers seem to slower and got tired in the championship rounds. In the final round Taconing gave his best to score a KO by landing hooks and body shots but still Lopez survived the last round. At the end of the fight Lopez scored a Unanimous decision victory to retain his title. Scores were 115-112, 119-108, 118-109

In the future we might see another Mexican-Filipino rivalry to fight for the title because Rey Loreto rated as no.2 contender and Randy Petalcorin no.5 might face the defending champ Ganigan Lopez.
