Resiliency, courage and perseverance amidst difficulties are
qualities that this handsome lad has in store for his sport that he can apply
to his life. Let us take a glimpse of this future basketball superstar’s career
and more.
Born
Raphael Jose Lopez Chavez on September 29, 1998 in Batangas City to Mr. Nelson
J. Chavez and Ms. Samantha Joyce L. Chavez, the 6-foot-1 UPHSD standout is now
playing as shooting guard/small forward for the Arellano University. His siblings
are Gabrielle Isabelle L. Chavez and Katrina Alyana L. Chavez.
Asked
how he manages to balance his sports and studies, “I go to school in the
morning then attend training sessions after classes. After that, I make sure to
finish assignments and study at once so that I can sleep early and have enough
energy the next day to perform the same routine. During weekends, I spend more
time on training”, said Rap2 as he is fondly called.
His career high was during the Mayor’s Cup in April
of 2014 in Batangas City where he made 49 points. However, the most fulfilling
and what he considers as his game high was in PBA Young Stars 2014 where he
scored 34 points during the championship game against Cebu. It was also his
first time to play in the Mall of Asia Arena.
Rap’s
favorite shot is fade away shot. In the NBA, he looks up to Kobe Bryant of the
Los Angeles Lakers. In the PBA, he likes James Yap who is now playing for Rain
or Shine Elasto Painters. For Rap, those who are a lot taller than him are the
most difficult to guard in the game.
“If
given the chance, I would like to play in the PBA. Also, it is my goal to
finish my studies and eventually manage my own business”, quipped Raphael.
